Methyldopa Generic |
Methyldopa |
 |
Description: Methyldopa is used in the treatment of high blood pressure. The antihypertensive effect of methyldopa probably is due to its metabolism to alpha-methylnorepinephrine, which reduces arterial pressure by stimulation of central inhibitory alpha-adrenergic receptors, false neurotransmission, and/or reduction of plasma renin activity. It may be used to treat certain conditions as detected by the medical practitioner. It is an alpha-2 receptor agonist, expansion of blood vessels reduces the increase in blood pressure. It is easier for blood to flow through expanded blood vessels which normalizes the blood pressure. Methyldopa is a prescription medication, please consult your physician or pharmacist for further information. |
